Coppers for Critters update The Coppers for Critters penny drive was extremely successful thanks to generous support of everyone that was able to spare some loose change. We were able to complete the original project of adding 14 new outdoor dog kennels. This will allow us to house, rehabilitate and hopefully adopt out many more animals each year. We're very pleased with how the project turned out and invite you to come see for yourself what a little "change" can do. The project's cost was $12,000, which equated to approximately 8,000 lb of change. Many people simply throw away their pennies or consider them to be worthless. We're hoping that you'll continue to throw your coppers into our collection pails instead! Every penny collected will get us that much closer to our new goal of renovating the puppy room. Many of the kennel fronts in this room are broken and need to be replaced. The puppy room is now completed and we are working on the front cat room. The cost for this new project is approximately $11,000 -- or 7,200 lb of change. We will provide the collection pails for any business choosing to participate. These pails will be marked off to show the progress of the pennies collected. We will pick up and empty the pails as they fill. A thermometer will be placed in the lobby of the Moncton SPCA to mark our progress toward the 7,200 lb of pennies we need to achieve our goal. The collection pails could be kept in your staff room or any other location at your business that would be convenient to you - even your reception desk. To participate, please contact Nanette Pearl at the Moncton SPCA at (506) 857-8698. |
A note about food donations to the Moncton SPCA While the Moncton SPCA greatly appreciates all food donations we receive, we may not always be able to use what is provided. We try very hard to give the animals the best care that we can while in our facility. Part of this means keeping them on a consistent diet as much as possible. Providing different brands of food than what the animals are normally used to can lead to upset stomachs, diarrhea and possible allergic reactions. We are fortunate to have Iams sponsor the pets who are already up for adoption. We do, however, rely on donations to feed the animals waiting for their chance at adoption or who are being housed with us for other reasons. If you wish to help these animals, we ask that you choose a food that we can use such as Pedigree dry dog food, Iams dry food (both cat and dog), canned dog food and canned cat food (beef or chicken - no seafood). That being said, any food that we receive is put to use. We do not throw away food. We share with other organizations, help the pet food bank, ca-r-ma, the Atlantic Wildlife Institute and local families who are unable to feed their pets. |
Jolicure Cats now available at Moncton SPCA Jolicure Cats - a wonderful new book by Lorrie Bell Hawkins - is now available for sale at the Moncton SPCA. These wonderful tales will surely touch your heart. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to the Moncton SPCA.
